always last minute!

I'm one of those 'do it at the last minute' people and sometimes i freak out and other times i take it in my stride as i only have myself to blame.

Last night was one of those times as they both needed a costume to wear today to book parade. They had chosen their characters and like i do..... left it to the last minute to put it all together.

I remember reading somewhere...' dont measure your child for lengths while they sleep, as it doesnt work'. well i did!

I think by luck it worked... although there was a little unpicking done and a spare pair of pants sent to school in case the others ripped or fell down like the last time!

So with tired eyes i sent Tintin and The littlest princess off to school today...even snowy the dog got a look in.

A quick afternoon tea with a girlfriend before school pick up.... love the home baking (wish i could put my name to it but not this time round... it was really good too!

Stripey tights all clean and ready to be put away... i love stripes.

2 of my favorite jugs. The brown one, which was my mothers, which was my grandmothers still reminds my mum of some childhood dinners, it poured cold gravy... my granny wasn't much of a cook, but she gave a great hug when she was in the mood!

magnolia

i wanted to share these images of our star wars magnolia with you. Taken last week in flower and then another image taken after some rain. I still find it beautiful after the rain. I think Oaks was inspired by it as she proudly showed me her drawing ...that has to be the magnolia!

I have been asked to share the flourless choc cake recipe, I am more than happy to, it is one from Terry Duracks Yum cookbook which i got about 14 years ago...so here it is:

150g butter 

150g sugar

200g good quality dark cooking chocolate

100g almond meal (ground almonds)

5 eggs

(you can also add some rum or brandy or coffee to it too if you wish)

PLace the chocolate, butter and sugar in a bowl over a pot of simmering water and melt to combine.

Take off heat and stir well. Add the ground almonds and then the egg yolks one at a time.

Beat the egg whites to stiff peaks and then add a spoon full to the choc mixture. Then FOLD the egg whites into the mix making sure you don't over work it.

Pour into a spring form cake tin which is lined with baling paper and bake in an oven 180 degrees for 35-40 minutes or longer. it will be crunchy on top, rise then sink.... let cool then remove from tin and enjoy every minute of it. 

it also freezes well cut into small squares.

We have been so busy around the house these days getting bits and pieces finished off.

The chooks have been busy too!!! Laying 5 eggs a day now (yiiipppeeee!!), so i have been baking when i see a window of time. Flourless chocolate cake is a favourite.... easy to make and tastes so good. 

He was 10 months old on monday and started to crawl the day before. Now i am really going to have a challenge on my hands trying to get the second coat of grey onto our very large wall. This shall be interesting!

a wintery weekend

the weather was a bit grey and rainy over the weekend with the sun popping out for a few seconds. we found colour in our days with decorating parts of arti's side of the room. i cooked comfort food all day saturday and a banana cake which managed to resemble rubber, if you were to drop it i am sure it would bounce! the kids are eating it and even asking for seconds...funny that!!

we had a friend come visit on sunday and we ate again more delicious food.
